Attention parents of Amelia Earhart Elementary’s 3rd and 4th grade students. Your students want to practice hard for the next four weeks to learn the multiplication facts 1 – 12. This is in preparation for the Math Night on Tuesday, February 18, at 6:30. On Tuesday, January 21, each student was given a fact-tent fluency practice kit.
This partner fact tent fluency practice uses cognitive sciences’ most up-to-date design for learning. Engaging with a partner and getting instant feedback for correct practice is a key to learning quickly. Additionally, the spaced review of previously learned material helps to move your newly learned facts into your long-term memory! You will need these math facts at the tip of your tongue for life!
You will need a fact tent, a partner, a timer, and your fact tracker for your daily practice sessions.
View the video tutorial on Youtube.
This video shows parents and students how to practice using fact fluency practice tents. This partner fluency practice can be done with any combination of partners. Student-to-student, each partner may work on different math facts, parent-to-child, or just a fact practice helper. It is recommended that students practice in 3-minute sprints and record their progress. The goal is to break the previous sprint’s number of facts reached.
If a student finishes all 50 facts before the sprint ends, return to the top and begin again. The goal is 15-minute practice sessions 5 days a week. Once a student successfully completes the fact practice within the 3 minutes, 3 times in a row, move on to the next fact set. However, return to practice previously mastered facts at least once a week to keep them fresh in your mind!
Each week, students who return a signed completed Fact Tracker AND have met the goal of practicing 15 minutes for 5 days a week will receive a unique weekly prize.
On Friday, Jan 24, during the launch week for the fact practice, students will receive a prize if they practice for 15 minutes on 3 days.
Students who reach the goal of practicing each week and have turned in 4 completed fact trackers will receive a “grand prize and recognition” at the Math Night on February 18!
All 3rd and 4th grade families save the date Tuesday, February 18, for the Students vs Parents Multiplication Night.
