Each year, the United Way coordinates the Utah County Day of Caring, so early in the morning on September 12, 2024, a team of Brigham Young University employees and students started painting Amelia Earhart Elementary’s playground blacktop games. The United Way provided the blacktop paint and game stencils. The 50 volunteers finished painting by lunch, but students needed to let the paint dry. The next day, students eagerly played on the brightly colored alphabet caterpillars, four-square, geographical United States map, and more. The wide variety of blacktop games and other playground equipment gives students choices for active playtime. Mr. McCarty is pleased with the outcome, especially the repainted lines of the basketball courts.
