All About Mrs. Newsom’s Class
Welcome back to school! I am excited to have your child in my class. The following information will help you understand what you can expect from our class throughout this year:
Math will be taught using the Go Math Program and Literacy will be taught using the Wonders Program. Both of these programs are valuable resources that align with the Utah Common Core. Science and Social Studies will be integrated with other subjects and will follow all the points of the Utah Common Core.
Homework will come home in the homework folder on Mondays. Each child will get a short paper book and a matching workbook. They should read the story each night and do 2 pages of the workbook. The book may seem too easy for some students, but the writing and comprehension sections are more rigorous. I also want students to focus on having good handwriting in the workbook. Students who return their workbook on Friday each week will be entered into a drawing for a prize.
We will celebrate each child’s birthday by doing a spotlight and making birthday cards. If you would like to send a store-bought treat that day, you are welcome to do so. If a child’s birthday falls on a weekend or holiday we will celebrate it on the day closest to the natural birthday. If your child has a summer birthday, we celebrate it someday throughout the year. I will let you know when that day will be.
I will be sending home bi-weekly newsletters. These newsletters will be sent home in your child’s homework folder every other Monday.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org or call me at the school at (801) – 370 – 4630. You are also welcome to visit with me before or after school.
